Our increasingly fast-paced new world is now described in terms of VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) and so leaders need to be able to operate in this environment and be able to perform under different situations. Dealing with different situations requires different approaches, hence situational leadership is an important concept to understand and work towards. A good leader needs to know their preferred style, and also how and when to use other styles for optimum performance.
