Pre-course requirements

  • For students looking to formalize their credentials through the BCRSP, University of Fredericton (UFred) is excited to offer an innovative CRSP Pathway. Fulfilling the educational component required by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP), the Pathway allows students to enrol in the Certificate in Health, Safety, and Environmental Management (CHSEP) and then proceed through the Diploma in Safety, Health, and Environmental Management (SHEM).

  • This Pathway, developed by UFred is a fully-online experience. This means OHS students can complete the entire Pathway without leaving their jobs. Students will enjoy a work-school balance that allows them to take new concepts from the classroom and immediately apply them to their careers. This Pathway aims to provide a seamless way for OHS students to formalize their credentials through the BCRSP.

  • One of the following must be sent to the University of Fredericton: An official transcript confirming the completion of an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate with a minimum of 300 hours, mailed directly from the college or university, or CRSP designation number.

  • English Proficiency requirement: A strong understanding of the English language and business writing. A score of 550 or more of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test (213 for the computer-based test) or a score of 6.5 or more of the International English Language Testing system (IELTS). This is exempted for those who obtained an undergraduate degree from an English-language University, or studied in an English-speaking country for at least five years.

  • International Applicant: Degree transcript in English evaluated by World Education Services (WES) or International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS) and notorized by lawyer need to be sent directly for Admissions Office.


To pass The Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (BCRSP) Examination at the approved centre.

Students who successfully passed the examination of CRSP official qualification to practice at Technician or Professional, depending on the qualification level obtained through this pathway.

This CRSP pathway is designed for existing safety practitioners, for example, HSE Advisors, Supervisors and Managers who want to develop their career to the next level.

Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) status is well recognized through out Canada by all employers and entrust safety management roles for those who completed this pathway and successfully attained CRSP designation.
